What is the Belgian Diversity Charter?
The Belgian Diversity Charter is the only recognised national charter. It is part of the European network of diversity charters coordinated by the European Commission.
Who manages the Belgian Diversity Charter?
The Diversity Charter in Belgium is managed by the non-profit organisation Platform for Systemic Diversity Policy. This organisation was initially created to launch and manage the Charter in Belgium.
Who is responsible for the Charter?
Our General Coordination is led by Saloua El Boustani.

What is the history of the EU Diversity Charters?
In 2004, France became the first country to introduce a Diversity Charter. In 2005 and 2006, the Brussels-Capital Region and Germany followed. Spain and Italy joined the movement in 2009, followed by Austria and Sweden in 2010.In 2012, five more countries adopted a charter: Poland, Luxembourg, Finland, Ireland and Estonia. Denmark and the Czech Republic launched their charters in 2014.Following an EU Action Grant in 2015, additional charters were established in Slovenia, Romania and Croatia.Finally, in 2024, Malta and the rest of Belgium also joined the initiative.
What is the relationship with the representation in the Brussels-Capital Region?
The Belgian Diversity Charter and the diversity consultants of Actiris support each other in the Brussels-Capital Region. The Diversity Charter represents Belgium at the European level, and together we build and maintain a network of organisations actively working on diversity and inclusion.
Companies in the Brussels-Capital Region can make free use of the diversity consultants at Actiris. They can support organisations in developing a diversity plan and help identify potential funding for its implementation.
What do you offer?
As part of our offering, we organise an annual conference, monthly gatherings for signatories, training sessions and advisory services. All of this is aimed at driving systemic change towards a more equitable and fair approach to people within organisations.
